The following is something I really wanted to share with you guys, but unfortunately, I couldn't find time to work on it and I had already emailed my dad about it... so the following is an excerpt of my mail to him.
Before I go on... short history... when I was growing up and I used to hear preachers and ppl tell me 'God spoke to me... God told me this in my prayer... God showed me this...' I always found that extremely amusing but also a bit frightening... I mean God coming and having a word with you can only mean 3 things (to me at that point in time)
1) Shape up - get my act together cos time is running out...
2) Ship out - time to go home to the Big Sky...
3) Keep it up - God edifying a person and their pursue to deepen their faith...
I always feared the first 2. But it was't until 3 years ago, I felt my life take a sudden turn... I really did feel GOd speaking to me or showing me things... I can't explain it and I know it can be a bit bizarre... but when you do experience it, it is amazingly comforting... or it makes you feel absoamazinglutely (a sample of a tmesis - word of the day) silly esp when He points out things you already know but we ppl of little faith seem to forget... like my experience below...
anyway daddy.... wanted to share something funny..
I met someone - yes... a guy - but not what you are thinking... read on first...
Pete Garbett came back for the easter holidays to visit his parents. His mom is one of the lay leaders in church. So because we didn't have an organist for the easter eve service, he agreed to play. He played like someone died and we were at the funeral service. hahaha... after that, both his parents insisted I should meet him and that he had many malaysian friends. and we did. and he invited me to join his family for horse racing. i won £5 by the way... hahaha..
moving along... after horse racing, i got droped off at home but that evening Pete and I met up for coffee and all we talked about was God, and what God had done for us and our experiences. Very spiritual, charasmatic and very in tune with God. Also very musical and so spirit filled. The reason he played like someone was dying was because he couldn't hear the ppl singing and didn't know what speed they were singing in. BUT... I was a bit annoyed / upset when he said he would never be able to come home and worship in Christ Church...
So I spent the next few days mumbling and getting a bit annoyed with God. I could not understand why Pete would not want to come home to help build the church. His spirit and amazing liveliness in God is excatly what christ church needs! But I also knew, he was so intuned with God therefore if God had told him to come back he probably would. So next issue was - why God wouldn't want someone like him in CHrist church? The youth and music ministry would def benefit from his gift and talent. So...
Yesterday when I was doing my devotion, I was reading John 21:14-25 and the main message was 'we need to focus on what He wants us to do and to act upon His directions, rather than looking to see if others are doing their bit for God.'
hahaha... that was like a slap to my face! but it goes to show He does really speak to us... and i think it is something as christians we lack to see... we are always so concerned if other ppl are pulling their weight in church we forget what we are suppose to do. And at the end of the day, we are judged on our own accord... not collectively what the church has done.
cookies to nibble isn't it?
^__^
